What is Rift & Quarter Sawn?
Rift and Quarter sawn lumber is a superior quality lumber due to the way the log is cut into quarters. By sawing the log in such a way the annual rings will be between 45 ° (rift) and 90° (quarter) to the face of the board. This creates a more stable board and has a distinct look from the grains on the board face. Hickman Lumber has been specializing in Rift and Quarter Sawn since the 1980s.
